Today I’m coming at you with a quote from The Miniaturist by Jessie Burton. I finished the novel last week and wanted to share with you a very short extract so you can have an idea of the quality of writing you can expect from it.
“We make a hopeful tapestry; no one to weave it but ourselves.”
The Miniaturist by Jessie Burton
This quotation sums up the main theme of the novel, the question of independence and one’s power over his or her own life. I won’t go into too much details about the novel and my thoughts on it because I’m planning to post my review next Wednesday but this quote is a great taste of one of the topic this book deals with. How can anyone be the master of his or her own existence in a society where money and reputation are pulling all the strings?
Stay tuned for a more detailed discussion!
